Celebrate National Nursing Home Week with Staff and Residents | May 10-16

National Nursing Home Week (NNHW) encourages all to celebrate those that make a positive difference in residents’ lives every day. Organized by the American Health Care Association (AHCA), the observance provides an opportunity to honor all who contribute to our nation’s nursing homes, including residents, family members, employees and volunteers.

This year’s theme, “Bring on the Fiesta,” encourages week-long entertainment and education centered on the subtheme of “Familia, Vida and Amor” (family, life and love) and celebrating cultures. The aim is to foster connections among residents, patients, families and staff, entice new guests and infrequent visitors, and encourage everyone to make time for loved ones.

Celebration Ideas for Nursing Home Staff:

  • Encourage residents’ families and other stakeholders to send “Thank-You” notes in support of those who provide care or support services.
  • Promote messages among staff, partners and providers throughout the week that demonstrate qualities of patience, kindness, harmony and good feelings in caring and respect for others.
  • Enhance gatherings with a fiesta theme! Share the NNHW planning guide for tips, including suggestions for music, decorations, food, and crafts that align with this year’s theme.
  • Share printable educational materials with participating nursing homes:
  • Share photos and videos that demonstrate how your facility is observing National Nursing Home Week. The NNHW Facebook page is located at: https://www.facebook.com/NursingHomeWeek. Review the photo submission policy. You can also send them to atom Alliance to include in our next online newsletter. Contact Krista Creel for more information
