New Ways to Reduce Hypertension and Prevent Strokes

High blood pressure is out of control for many Americans. The latest data show that nearly 1 in 3 American adults-approximately 70 million-has high blood pressure and only half have it safely controlled. Many practices and systems have succeeded in working with their patients to get blood pressure under control. Over 12 million adults are served by the current Hypertension Control Champions. atom Alliance encourages you to enter the 2015 Hypertension Control Challenge by Oct. 31 and become a Champion.

This year, the Million Hearts campaign wants to recognize even more Hypertension Control Champions. Clinicians, practices and health systems that provide continuing care and have achieved hypertension control rates greater than 70% are eligible to enter.

World Stroke Day is Oct. 29 and joining this challenge is great way for providers to focus on patients’ blood pressure and getting it under control.

Another way to help patients on World Stroke Day is by sharing the F.A.S.T. song. It uses the power of music to help people remember the most common warning signs of stroke:

F – Face drooping
A – Arm weakness
S – Speech difficulty
T – Time to call 9-1-1
