Alcohol Poisoning Most Common Among Middle Aged Adults
If you most closely relate alcohol poisoning cases to college campus parties, think again.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 34 percent of alcohol poisoning deaths occur among middle aged adults aged 45–54. The second highest deaths occur among 35–44 and 55–64 year olds, both at the rate of 21 percent.
Men make up the highest group at 76 percent. Of those, 68 percent are white, non-Hispanic men.

Life-threatening signs of alcohol poisoning
- Inability to wake up
- Vomiting
- Slow breathing (fewer than 8 breaths per minute)
- Irregular breathing (10 seconds or more between breaths)
- Seizures
- Hypothermia (low body temperature), bluish skin color, paleness
