Learning Session 2: Understanding Dementia and the Nature of Behavioral Disturbances

This is the second (of six) webinars in the Antipsychotic Reduction Series, a partnership between Qsource and Vanderbilt Center for Quality Aging. An interdisciplinary team created this series to assist long-term care facilities in their efforts to decrease reliance on antipsychotic medications.

In this session, a geriatric psychiatrist delves into the disease progression of Alzheimer’s and dementia while describing common behavioral disturbances associated with the disease.

 

Objectives:

  1. Common behavioral disturbances in Alzheimer’s disease and their developmental trajectory
  2. Standard treatment for Alzheimer’s disease and how this treatment impacts behavioral problems
  3. Behavioral problems in non-Alzheimer’s dementia- what is similar and different?
  4. Common dementia behavioral problems in relationship to other medical problems and comorbidities
