Learning Session 1: Introduction to Dementia Care and Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement

This is the first (of six) webinars in the Antipsychotic Reduction Series, a partnership between Qsource and Vanderbilt Center for Quality Aging. An interdisciplinary team created this series to assist long-term care facilities in their efforts to decrease reliance on antipsychotic medications.

This session serves to introduce facilities to common problem behaviors, the risks of antipsychotic medications, and QAPI principles.

 

Objectives:

  1. To provide an overview of dementia and problem behaviors in the long-term care setting.
  2. To describe the potential adverse effects of antipsychotic medications for managing problem behaviors.
  3. To provide an introduction to the principles of QAPI and its application to reduce antipsychotic drug use
