Beyond CDI Basic Prevention Strategies Session 5
In this 5th Learning Session in our Clostridium difficile infection (CDI) series, we look at the benefits of an Antibiotic Stewardship Program. CDIs are on the rise across the United States. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that CDI “was estimated to have caused almost half a million infections in the United States in 2011, and 29,000 of those infected died within 30 days of the initial diagnosis.” With the implementation of strategic infection control recommendations and careful antibiotic use, CDI can be prevented.
During this 60 minute session, Dr. Ed Septimus, FIDSA, FACP, FSHEA, Medical Director, Infection Prevention and Epidemiology Clinical Service Group for HCA Healthcare System, will
- Detail elements of an Antibiotic Stewardship Program,
- Discuss how to monitor antibiotic usage, and
- Identify resources to guide development of an Antibiotic Stewardship Program.
