Take the Test for Diabetes Alert Day

The American Diabetes Association Alert Day serves as a “wake-up call” to inform the American public about the seriousness of diabetes. The American Diabetes Association encourages people to join the movement to Stop Diabetes® by taking the Diabetes Risk Test and finding out if they, or their loved ones, are at risk for developing type 2 diabetes. The observance takes place on the fourth Tuesday of every March. This year it will be March 26, 2019.

Using lessons learned from the Everyone with Diabetes Counts program, atom Alliance works with providers to educate them on the Medicare DSMT (diabetes self-management training) and MNT (medical nutrition therapy) benefits. Our goals are to:

  • Improve clinical outcomes of HbA1c, lipids, blood pressure and weight control for people with diabetes;
  • Decrease the number of patients who require lower extremity amputation due to complications resulting from poorly controlled diabetes;
  • Improve health literacy of Medicare and dual-eligible patients with diabetes in targeted populations by providing and facilitating DSME (diabetes self-management education) training classes;
  • Increase adherence to clinical guidelines by participating practitioners for appropriate use of utilization measures for HbA1c, lipids, and eye exams.
