Administration on Aging: Helping Older Adults Stay Healthy
The Administration on Aging (AoA) is the principal agency of the U.S Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) designated to carry out the provisions of the Older Americans Act of 1965 (OAA) that promotes the well being of older individuals by providing services and programs designed to help them live independently in their homes and communities. The Act empowers the federal government to distribute to states supportive services funding for individuals aged 60+.
Contracted by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to improve healthcare quality in the states of Alabama, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi and Tennessee, Qsource is part of a broad national effort comprised of several national partners, including the AoA. Many of our goals align with AoA’s goals, such as these, to name a few:
- addressing behavioral health by improving behavioral health screening among primary care providers,
- providing chronic disease self management education to improve the ABCS (A-Asprin use for those who need it, B-blood pressure control, C-cholesterol management and S-smoking cessation)
- encouraging diabetes self management by reducing disparities in diabetes care and
- preventing falls by instructing nursing homes on falls prevention.
We thank our national partners for providing the dedicated leadership needed to improve healthcare quality and equity for older Americans and look forward to continued advancements and success.
